Biometric Attendance Integration for Schools

Overview

Biometric attendance integration uses fingerprint or facial recognition readers to automatically capture student and staff attendance without requiring manual roll call. When a student places their finger on the biometric reader at the school gate or classroom entrance, their identity is verified against the enrolled fingerprint template, and their attendance record is created in RedeemOS automatically. This eliminates the time taken for manual roll call in large schools, prevents proxy attendance (a student answering "present" for an absent classmate), and provides accurate, real-time attendance data without teacher intervention. RedeemOS integrates with standard USB and network-connected fingerprint readers, making biometric attendance practical for schools that want to deploy automated attendance capture.

How It Works

  1. 1

A compatible fingerprint or facial recognition reader is installed at the school gate, classroom entrance, or a designated attendance station.

  2. 2

During setup, each student and staff member's biometric data (fingerprint templates) is enrolled in the reader. Templates are stored locally on the device — biometric data never leaves the school premises.

  3. 3

When a student arrives at school or enters a classroom, they touch the reader. The device matches the fingerprint against the enrolled templates and identifies the student.

  4. 4

The attendance event is transmitted from the reader to RedeemOS via the local network or USB connection. RedeemOS creates the attendance record for the identified student at the capture time.

  5. 5

If a student does not touch the reader within the roll call period, RedeemOS marks them absent and sends the parent absence alert as normal.

  6. 6

Attendance data captured biometrically appears in the same attendance module as manual roll call data — there is one unified attendance record regardless of capture method.

Benefits

Eliminates proxy attendance — biometric identity cannot be duplicated by a classmate

Removes the daily time cost of manual roll call in large schools and secondary classes

Provides real-time attendance capture without requiring teacher intervention per student

Biometric templates stored locally ensure no biometric data is transmitted over the internet

Reduces parent alert latency — absence notifications are triggered immediately upon the roll call deadline passing

Seamlessly integrates with the standard attendance module — no separate attendance system required
